LAURA BARRICELLI

Laura Barricelli is a massage therapist and co-owner of Sollievo, a massage and bodywork business in North Cambridge. Laura graduated from The Muscular Therapy Institute in 1998. Since that time, she has worked in private practice, in chiropractic offices, in hospitals, and in spas. In 2001, she joined the faculty at MTI and taught a variety of courses including Muscular Therapy Technique, Supervision, Sports Massage, Practice Development, Business Development, and Perspectives on Bodywork. She is a member of the AMTA and is Nationally Certified.

Laura defines herself as a generalist, meaning her practice has been informed, but not defined by many modalities. This allows her the freedom to teach in a more fluid way, and encourages students to explore conscious choices across several paradigms. By keeping the focus of her teaching on intentionality, desired results and creativity in technique selection, her teaching helps lead students to their own unique dialogue with each body.

A 1983 graduate of U.C. Riverside with an interdisciplinary degree in Psychology, Sociology and Anthropology, Laura brings to massage a lifetime of inquiry into human nature and behavior. Her teaching, likewise, places great emphasis on the importance of noticing the details (eye contact, touch, body language, word choice, etc.) in the client-therapist relationship.

Laura has participated in item writing for the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, directed the center for Career Placement at MTI, and participated in an NCI-funded study entitled “Therapeutic Massage Intervention for Hospitalized Patients with Metastatic Cancer.”
