MYOFASCIAL BODYWORK FOR THE SHOULDER WITH LOU BENSON
This class will begin with a lecture and slideshow review of the anatomy of the shoulder. We’ll look at, palpate and learn myofascial techniques for these muscles in 2 groups:
(1) The 6 muscles of Scapular Stabilization: Trapezius, Levator Scapulae, Rhomboids, Serratus Anterior, Pectoralis Minor and Subclavius.
(2) The 11 muscles that control and move the Glenohumeral Joint: Pectoralis Major, Latissimus Dorsi, Teres Major, Deltoid, Coracobrachialis, Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres Minor,
Subscapularis, Biceps Brachii, Triceps Brachii.
We’ll break these muscles out further to look at their functional relationships in creating, compensating for and correcting common biomechanical problems at the shoulder. Technique demonstration and practice will be organized around treating imbalances among functional pairs of muscles (i.e., pectoralis minor and lower trapezius, serratus anterior and rhomboids, etc.). Good body usage, accuracy in palpating tissue restrictions and release will be emphasized.
