The Bodywork Education Project Presents
Scar Management Certification Training
w/ Nancy Keeney Smith, LCMT
September 16-18, 2011
Watertown, MA

Nancy’s full 100 hour Certification Program will be taught in three phases, each building on the other to give the therapist a complete therapeutic picture of working with traumatic, matured scarring.

Phase One: Three 8 Hour CE Workshops (24 NCBTMB Approved CE Hours)

  1. THE SKIN-Scar Management Techniques and Assessment
Learn to access types of scars and techniques best suited for optimum release. We discuss the latest research on massage and scarring and how traumatic scarring forms.
  2. Scar Management-The Role of the Lymph and Nervous System
Two systems that play a vital role in recovery and continued healing with traumatic scarring. This class will take an in-depth look at what effects scar tissue has on both systems and assessment tools for long term recovery.
  3. Scar Management-Trauma, Pain and Protocol
The last class in Phase One pulls all the information together for the therapist to work with the client’s body, mind and tissue. We explore how the tissue holds trauma and its effects on the healing process. The role that pain plays in the recovery for you and for the client.  Then we define the protocol best suited for the client’s long term recovery. This class ends with a round robin clinic made up of volunteers with different types of scarring.

All participants will take away knowledge of scar formation, techniques best suited for long term recovery and the latest research on the benefits of massage therapy in scar management.

Classes limited to 16 participants.
