Myofascial Scar Release for Burn Scars - Internship
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Massage therapists who have taken the Scar Release and Massage Therapy for Burns workshop know first hand how effective massage and bodywork can be for burn survivors. Burn scars, in particular, have a very deep physical & emotional impact on the burn survivor. Massage therapy and Myofascial Scar Release can profoundly help in the healing of both the physical & emotional scars by offering gentle, nurturing touch to the traumatized client and their traumatized tissues. Research has shown that massage can soften and thin the scarred tissue, lessen pain & itching, increase mobility, and decrease depression, anxiety & anger.
In this 15 hour internship, massage therapists that have taken the Scar Release and Massage Therapy for Burns workshop will be eligible to take this internship in which they will work on Burn survivors in a supervised clinical setting over an 5 week period. Each weekly 3 hour session will include a 60 min. lesson on the topic of the day, review of the burn survivor client's medical history and opportunity to ask questions, followed by a 90 min. supervised treatment in tandem with the supervising massage therapist, followed by a 30 min. period to chart treatment notes and debrief.
